Cocktails For A Crowd Book Signing
Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Kara Newman, author of Cocktails For A Crowd. Ms. Newman was in Jacksonville for a book signing that turned into a great Sunday afternoon event. She is the Spirits Editor for Wine Enthusiast magazine. Other works include articles written for dozens of popular outlets including The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, and Sommelier Journal. Other books written by Kara Newman include The Secret Financial Life Of Food and Spice And Ice.
Cocktails For A Crowd includes over 40 recipes to wow any party guest. The recipes are for making an expert mixoligist creation in batches. There’s nothing worse than missing your own party because of being stuck in the kitchen or behind the bar. Her recipes include punches, pitcher drinks, tropical drinks, and of course, cool and classic drinks. Equipment, garnishes, and technique are all covered giving the reader great ideas and the expertise to offer unbelievable hand crafted batch cocktails for a party.
Meeting Kara and sampling one of her creations made for a great afternoon. The event included a version of one cocktail from the book, The Rosemary Refresher. This is a margarita variation made using reposado tequila, fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, and rosemary infused simple syrup. The variation I had the pleasure of tasting was made with vodka for a nice refreshing afternoon twist. The sprig of rosemary garnish was visually perfect and brought forward a fresh summertime aroma to the cocktail.
This Recipe is found on page 54 of her book along with directions on how to create a rosemary infused simple syrup. More about Kara can be found on her website www.karanewman.com. I’d recommend her latest work to any entertainer with an appreciation for craft cocktails.
Meeting Kara and enjoying one of her creations was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
